Loch Farr is nine miles from Inverness near Farr in the Nairn Valley, and is a popular place for catching brown trout. The area is absolutely stunning with large Pine forests, also Larch and Spruce and has fantastic areas for walking or cycling.
The wildlife is rich and varied, with many bird species but of interest is the Scottish Crossbill. The endangered Red Squirrel is a resident of the woods and there also a chance of seeing Otters. The common toad is also has a large colony here and hibernates in the trees in winter.
It was late on in the afternoon on 30th October 2010 that myself and friend Andy stopped here, we had decided to travel from Inverness to Tomatin via the Garbole road through Strathnairn, rumoured to be the site of two ghost Armies fighting.
It was such a tranquil scene, so peaceful, and marvellous views across the Loch.
