The female Golden-ringed Dragonfly is quite impressive to see at 8.4cm long, she is also the longest Dragonfly species in Britain. This species is common in Britain and can be found near acidic rivers and streams. Therefore they are likely to be found near peat burns and rivers.
I was visiting Plodda Falls which is just a couple of miles from the conservation village of Tomich, when I decided to go and see the ruins of Guisachan House, formerly owned by Lord Tweedmouth who was responsible for the planting of Giant Redwood, Douglas Firs and Larch in the area. Whilst there I took a walk along the banks of the Abhainn Deabhag where I found this gorgeous creature resting on a rock at the river’s edge.
