Clachtoll

The captivating beach of Clachtoll is a place you will want to visit again and again as I have over the years. Located near to Lochinver and  the stunning mountains of Assynt and Sutherland, the small village takes it’s name from the split rock on the headland of the bay, with clach meaning rock and toll referring to hole in Gaelic.

The golden sands of the beach are superb as are the enticing aquamarine waters. The sun was still beaming down when I set off from the campsite just after 8 on this bonny July evening with my Canon and tripod in hand. A Highland cow calf was very interested in what I was doing but unfortunately he was a bit camera shy when I had eventually taken this shot.

Another great point for photographing in this area is that it is relatively midge free! There is the remains of an Iron-age Broch nearby and close to the beach a salmon bothy.

The family run campsite is the best I’ve stayed at in all my years of camping with modern facilities, and friendly chickens to welcome you also.
