As it was such a beautiful morning today (16/02/14) We decided it was a perfect opportunity to test our new bikes, and with Canon in hand we made our way to the Beauly Firth.
On our return we cycled through some woodland and here we saw the wonderful Snowdrops. It really felt like a spring morning, here in the Highlands.
The Snowdrop (Galanthus) has a wide distribution, although not native to our shores. Galanthus nivalis is the most widespread, and the one which we see here.
Interestingly there is a Snowdrop festival which takes place in Scotland from 1st February to the 11th March, and in the first year of the festival sixty gardens opened for the occasion.
