I quite often have walked round Monadh Mor, as a way to relax after finishing my work day, with my friend Julia. It was a wonderful chance to unwind before having to get back into the routine at home.
I took this shot on 5th March 2010, as I felt the reflections on the water from the almost skeletal looking pines, were rather otherworldly.
Monadh Mor is on the Black Isle, just past the Tore roundabout on the A835. The four mile route around the woodland is very popular with walkers, joggers and those out for a wee stroll.
Monadh Mor has been assigned as a Special Area of Conservation, due to the bog woodland being the largest in a single area in the UK, also in part to the the large amount of bog mosses, which surround the Lochans and streams.
Whilst walking through this very peaceful woodland you may occasionally see deer, (as I did one day when one leapt out in front of me!) Crossbills and Red Kites. If you are lucky enough there may be a chance of coming across the Great Crested Newt, one of which was discovered in 2008, this was highly unusual as the species is very rare in the Highlands.
